Beginning of a parking management zone
Mandatory or prohibitory sign 1. Anyone driving a vehicle may park within the parking management zone only with a parking ticket or parking disc (image 318), unless stopping and parking are prohibited by law or by traffic signs. 2. When you see the Zeichen
This sign marks the start of a parking management zone. Before parking, check the Zusatzzeichen and make sure the required parking ticket, parking disc or valid parking permit is clearly visible inside or attached to the vehicle.
Rules
- Within the zone, you may park only with a parking ticket or parking disc; the applicable rule is indicated by Zusatzzeichen.
- Statutory Haltverbot and Parkverbot, as well as those ordered by other traffic signs, continue to apply despite the parking management zone.
- The parking ticket, parking disc or parking permit must be displayed or attached so that it is clearly legible from outside.
- Residents with a parking permit, as well as electric or car-sharing vehicles, may be exempt from individual requirements by means of Zusatzzeichen or information displayed on the parking ticket machine.
- The regulation applies throughout the entire zone until Zeichen 314.2 “End of a parking management zone”.
Tips
- Read all Zusatzzeichen carefully when entering, as they may specify, for example, charging times, the maximum parking duration or exemptions.
- At the specific parking space, also check whether a Haltverbot, a loading zone or a special reservation applies.
- If a parking disc is required, set the indicator to the next half-hour mark after your arrival time.
- For electric or car-sharing vehicles, do not rely on a general exemption; instead, check the Zusatzzeichen and the information displayed on the parking ticket machine.
Common misunderstandings
- The sign is understood as general permission to park. However, it does not permit parking where this is prohibited by law or by other traffic signs.
- Learner drivers believe the regulation applies only immediately beside the sign. In fact, it applies throughout the entire marked zone until the corresponding end sign.
- Having resident, electric-vehicle or car-sharing status is automatically treated as an exemption. Any such exemption must be expressly ordered, and the required proof must be clearly visible.
Exam tip
A typical exam trap is whether you may park anywhere within the zone with a parking ticket. The correct answer is: Existing Haltverbot and Parkverbot continue to take priority, and the Zusatzzeichen determines whether a parking ticket, parking disc or special permit is required.
Did you know
Zeichen 314.1 is a zone sign, so the parking regulation does not have to be repeated on every individual section of road. The specific type of parking management is determined by Zusatzzeichen.
Frequently asked questions
May I park anywhere immediately after passing the sign?
No. You may park only where stopping and parking are prohibited neither by law nor by traffic signs. You must also comply with the type of parking management indicated by Zusatzzeichen.
How long does the parking management zone apply?
It applies from Zeichen 314.1 throughout the zone until Zeichen 314.2 “End of a parking management zone”. The regulation does not automatically end at the next intersection or junction.
Are residents with a parking permit always exempt from using a parking ticket or parking disc?
No. The exemption must be ordered by Zusatzzeichen. In addition, the resident parking permit must be displayed or attached in the vehicle so that it is clearly legible.
Do electric vehicles have to pay parking charges in the zone?
That depends on the local regulation. Any exemption or time limit must be indicated by Zusatzzeichen or, where parking ticket machines are provided, by corresponding information on the machine.
