End of a traffic-calmed area
When exiting, § 10 must be observed.

When you see the Zeichen
When exiting the verkehrsberuhigter Bereich, you must proceed in accordance with § 10 StVO so that other road users are not endangered. If necessary, wait and continue only when, in particular, moving traffic as well as pedestrians and cyclists can pass safely.
Rules
- When exiting, you have a special duty of care under § 10 StVO; you must wait for traffic on the other road.
- The “right before left” rule does not apply at this exit, even if there are no right-of-way signs.
- You must indicate any intended change of direction in good time and clearly using your turn signal.
- The required Schrittgeschwindigkeit in the verkehrsberuhigter Bereich ends only at the sign; after that, the posted or general maximum speed limit for the following section of road applies.
- The sign neither automatically marks the end of a geschlossene Ortschaft nor cancels any other traffic signs.
Tips
- Approach the exit slowly and check both directions, even if you are coming from the right.
- Pay particular attention to cyclists on the road or on permitted cycle paths, as well as to people crossing the exit area.
- Accelerate only after the sign and only as much as the new traffic situation and the applicable maximum speed limit allow.
- Do not rely solely on a lowered kerb: Exiting the marked area itself triggers the duties under § 10 StVO.
Common misunderstandings
- Learner drivers assume they have Vorfahrt when they come from the right out of the verkehrsberuhigter Bereich. In fact, § 10 StVO applies when exiting, not the “right before left” rule.
- The sign is confused with the back of an Ortstafel. Zeichen 325.2 only marks the end of the verkehrsberuhigter Bereich, not the end of the geschlossene Ortschaft.
- Some drivers accelerate beyond Schrittgeschwindigkeit before reaching the sign. However, the regulation for the verkehrsberuhigter Bereich remains in force up to the end sign.
Exam tip
A typical exam trap shows an unmarked junction where you are coming from the right out of a verkehrsberuhigter Bereich. Despite being on the right, you must let everyone else pass because § 10 StVO applies when exiting.
Did you know
Zeichen 325.2 is often on the back of Zeichen 325.1: Drivers entering the verkehrsberuhigter Bereich from the opposite direction see its beginning there, while you see the end sign.
Frequently asked questions
Do I have Vorfahrt when exiting if I am coming from the right?
No. When exiting a verkehrsberuhigter Bereich, § 10 StVO applies, so you must rule out any danger to others and wait if necessary.
Do I have to use my turn signal when leaving the area?
If you turn left or right, you must indicate the change of direction in good time and clearly. If you continue straight ahead without changing direction, you must not signal in a misleading way.
Which speed applies immediately after the sign?
The required Schrittgeschwindigkeit for the verkehrsberuhigter Bereich no longer applies after the sign. Any existing speed-limit signs or the general rules now determine the applicable speed, although you may accelerate only after the sign and in a manner appropriate to the situation.
Is Zeichen 325.2 the same as the end of a geschlossene Ortschaft?
No. The end of a geschlossene Ortschaft is indicated by the back of the Ortstafel, Zeichen 311; Zeichen 325.2 marks only the end of the verkehrsberuhigter Bereich.
