When you see the Zeichen

The route recommended by a diversion arrow ends at this sign. From here, follow the normal road signs again and observe all other traffic signs; this sign alone does not require any particular driving manoeuvre.

Rules

  • Zeichen 467.2 marks only the end of a recommended route.
  • The sign does not end a diversion with a mandatory direction of travel, but an optional alternative route.
  • The sign neither requires you to turn nor prohibits you from continuing to use a particular road.
  • Speed limits, no-overtaking restrictions and other regulations are not cancelled by Zeichen 467.2.
  • After the sign, the existing road signs and all other traffic signs continue to apply unchanged.

Tips

  • After the sign, follow the regular destination and direction signs again.
  • Move into the appropriate lane in good time based on your onward destination, especially if the recommended route ends at a junction.
  • Expect traffic that was previously diverted to be directed back onto the original main route or another main route.
  • Do not confuse the sign with the end of a geschlossene Ortschaft or the end of a speed limit.

Common misunderstandings

  • !Learner drivers mistake the recommended route for a mandatory diversion and therefore believe they must follow the indicated route all the way to the sign.
  • !The sign is incorrectly understood as cancelling speed limits or no-overtaking restrictions.
  • !Some people confuse it with Zeichen 311 and assume that it marks the end of a geschlossene Ortschaft.

Exam tip

In exam questions, look for the term “recommended route”: the sign ends a recommendation, not automatically a diversion, a speed limit or a geschlossene Ortschaft.

Did you know

Zeichen 467.2 is typically placed where an alternative route recommended by diversion arrows ends and traffic is expected to follow the regular road signs again.

Frequently asked questions

Do I have to turn at Zeichen 467.2?

No. The sign does not require you to turn or prescribe a particular direction of travel; it merely marks the end of the recommended route.

Does the sign cancel a speed limit?

No. An imposed speed limit continues to apply regardless of Zeichen 467.2 until it ends under the applicable rules or is explicitly cancelled.

Is a route marked by diversion arrows mandatory?

No, a diversion arrow marks a recommended route. However, other traffic signs, such as no-entry signs or mandatory directions of travel, remain binding.

What is the difference between this sign and the reverse side of the Ortstafel, Zeichen 311?

Zeichen 311 marks the end of a geschlossene Ortschaft and affects traffic rules that depend on being within a built-up area. Zeichen 467.2, by contrast, only ends a recommended route.
