Parking zone
The sign indicates the boundary of an area where special provisions apply to the parking or stopping of vehicles. The special provisions that apply are shown by symbols and text on the sign. The sign applies until it is cancelled by sign 378 “End of parking zone”. For specified sections of road within the area, different provisions concerning parking or stopping may be established by signs. The zone sign’s provisions do not apply to these sections of road.
When you see the sign
Read the symbols and text on the sign as you enter the area, and park or stop in accordance with the stated regulations. The rules apply throughout the zone until sign 378 «Slutt på parkeringssone», unless other signs set different rules for a specific section of road.
Rules
- The sign marks the boundary of an area with special regulations concerning parking or stopping.
- The symbols and text on the sign indicate which regulations apply in the zone.
- The zone regulations remain in force until sign 378 «Slutt på parkeringssone» cancels them.
- On a section of road with separate signs regulating parking or stopping, those signs take precedence over the zone sign’s regulations.
Tips
- Read the entire sign at the entrance, including times, symbols and any information about fees or permits.
- Remember that the zone regulations still apply after you pass an intersection; an intersection does not end the zone.
- Look for new parking or stopping signs on each street, as they may set different rules for that particular section of road.
Common misconceptions
- Assuming that the sign always means parking is permitted. The specific symbols and text may also indicate prohibitions or restrictions.
- Assuming that the zone ends at the first intersection. It remains in force until cancelled by sign 378.
- Ignoring local signs within the zone and following the zone rule even when a particular section of road has different regulations.

Easy
What does this sign mean?
- AIt marks the beginning of an area where all motor-vehicle traffic is prohibited.
- BIt marks the beginning of an area where all parking is always permitted.
- CIt marks the beginning of an area where entering with a vehicle is prohibited.
- DIt marks the beginning of an area with special regulations concerning parking or stopping.
Medium
You pass this sign, which indicates a parking prohibition in the area. After an intersection you want to park, but you have not passed a sign that ends the zone. What do you do?
- AI do not park because the parking prohibition still applies after the intersection.
- BI park because the area sign applies only to the road where it is installed.
- CI do not continue driving because all vehicle traffic is prohibited after the intersection.
- DI park because the parking prohibition automatically ends at the first intersection.
Hard
Inside the area, you reach a section of road with a separate sign permitting parking under specific conditions. The regulations at the entrance to the area are stricter. Which regulations do you follow on this section of road?
- AI follow the area sign because local signs apply only after the area has ended.
- BI follow the local sign because it establishes different regulations for the section of road.
- CI follow the area sign because it always takes precedence over local signs on the section of road.
- DI follow neither sign because different regulations cancel each other out on the section of road.
Theory test tip
A common trap on the theory test is assuming that the rules end at an intersection. Look for sign 378, which cancels the zone, and remember that separate signs on a section of road take precedence over the zone regulations there.
Did you know
Zone regulations are often used in areas with several streets, allowing the same parking or stopping regulations to apply throughout the area without having to be repeated on every individual street.
Frequently asked questions
How long do the regulations in the zone apply?
They apply from the moment you pass the sign until sign 378 «Slutt på parkeringssone». An intersection on its own does not end the zone.
What should I do if there is another parking sign inside the zone?
Follow the separate sign on the section of road to which it applies. The different regulations shown on the zone sign do not apply there.
Does the sign mean that entering the area is prohibited?
No, the sign does not prohibit entry. It regulates parking or stopping as indicated by the symbols and text on the sign.
Is parking always permitted in such a zone?
No, the sign only indicates that special regulations apply in the area. You must read the symbols and text to see whether parking is permitted, restricted or prohibited.
