End of no overtaking for lorries
The sign indicates that the prohibition on overtaking for lorries ends.
When you see the sign
The sign means that the previously indicated ban on overtaking for lorries has ended. Be aware that lorries may now start overtaking, but overtaking is still permitted only when the traffic rules, visibility and road markings allow it.
Rules
- The sign lifts only the overtaking ban applying to lorries with a permitted gross weight of over 3 500 kg.
- After this sign, such lorries may overtake motor vehicles with more than two wheels, provided that the overtaking is otherwise legal and safe.
- The sign does not override restrictions resulting from a solid line, other traffic signs or the traffic rules.
- The sign does not change the speed limit and does not give any driver priority when changing lanes or overtaking.
Tips
- Expect a lorry in front of or behind you to change lanes shortly after the sign.
- Maintain a steady speed and avoid accelerating if you are being overtaken by a lorry.
- Check your mirrors and blind spot especially carefully before changing lanes yourself after the sign.
- Continue to look out for solid lines, oncoming traffic and other conditions that could make overtaking illegal.
Common misconceptions
- Thinking that the sign prohibits lorries from continuing, as the sign «Forbudt for lastebil og trekkbil» does.
- Thinking that the sign means all vehicles may now overtake freely, regardless of road markings and visibility.
- Thinking that the sign ends all local restrictions or changes the speed limit.

Theory test tip
In the theory test, this sign may be confused with «Forbudt for lastebil og trekkbil». Look for the grey design and the diagonal lines: the sign ends an overtaking ban but does not prohibit lorries from driving on the road.
Did you know
The sign is often used after a stretch of road where overtaking by lorries has been prohibited, for example where lengthy overtaking manoeuvres could impede the flow of traffic. The grey symbol with diagonal lines indicates that a previous prohibition has ended.
Frequently asked questions
Can a lorry start overtaking immediately after the sign?
Yes, provided that the overtaking is legal and can be carried out safely. A solid line, poor visibility, oncoming traffic or other rules may still prevent overtaking.
Does the sign apply to an ordinary passenger car?
The sign lifts a restriction applying to lorries with a permitted gross weight of over 3 500 kg. As a passenger car driver, you must nevertheless be prepared for lorries to change lanes and start overtaking.
Does the sign also lift the speed limit?
No. The speed limit remains in force until it is changed or lifted in the usual way.
Can a lorry cross a solid line after the sign?
No. The sign lifts only the specific overtaking ban for lorries and does not override the road markings.
