Railway station/train terminal (774)

Railway station/train terminal

Direction Signs Sign number: 774

When you see the sign

The sign indicates the road to, or the location of, a railway station or train terminal. If you are going there, follow the arrow or other directional information and move into the correct lane early; if you are not, continue by following the other signs.

Rules

  • Sign 774 is a direction sign indicating a railway station or train terminal.
  • The sign does not warn of a level crossing and therefore does not in itself require you to stop or reduce your speed.
  • The direction must be interpreted together with any arrow, direction sign or lane information shown on the sign.
  • The sign does not give you any special right to stop or park at the station; ordinary signs and traffic rules apply.

Tips

  • Look out for an arrow or lane information early, so you have time to change lanes safely.
  • Watch out for buses, taxis, cyclists and pedestrians near the station entrance.
  • Do not brake suddenly when you see the sign; continue driving and find a legal route if you pass the exit.
  • Look for separate signs for short-term parking, drop-off and pick-up areas, or parking facilities near the terminal.

Common misconceptions

  • !Thinking that the sign warns of a railway crossing. A level crossing is indicated by separate warning signs and, where applicable, signalling equipment or barriers.
  • !Interpreting the sign as an instruction to turn towards the station. It only provides location information for road users heading there.
  • !Thinking that the sign permits stopping or parking right by the terminal.

Frequently asked questions

Do I have to slow down when I see Sign 774?

The sign does not specify any particular speed. Nevertheless, adjust your speed if the terminal area has many pedestrians, buses, taxis or entrances and exits.

Does the sign mean that railway tracks cross the road ahead?

No. The sign indicates the location of a railway station or train terminal, whereas a level crossing is warned of and regulated by other signs and, where applicable, a barrier or traffic signal.

Can I park next to the sign to pick up a passenger?

Not on the basis of this sign alone. You must follow the parking signs, no-stopping restrictions and other rules that apply at the location.

Do I have to follow the direction shown?

Only if you are going to the station or terminal. The sign is not a mandatory sign, so other road users should follow the directions to their own destination.
