End of the cycle expressway

When you see the Zeichen
The sign marks the end of a cycle expressway. Pay attention to the traffic routing, signs and road markings that follow, as the routing for cycle traffic may change or merge into general traffic.
Rules
- Zeichen 350.2 ends the cycle-expressway route indicated by Zeichen 350.1.
- On its own, the sign neither imposes a specific speed nor establishes a Vorfahrt rule.
- Prohibitions or requirements for individual types of road users continue to arise only from additional traffic signs, road markings and the general traffic rules.
- At a subsequent junction, the Vorfahrt signs or traffic lights present there apply; if there are none, the right-before-left rule may apply.
Tips
- Expect cyclists to be routed differently after the end of the cycle expressway, for example onto a cycle path, a cycle lane or the carriageway.
- Check your mirrors and the area beside the road early if cycle traffic and motor-vehicle traffic approach or cross each other behind the sign.
- Immediately after the sign, follow any new road markings and signs instead of automatically continuing along the previous route.
Common misunderstandings
- The sign is confused with Zeichen 350.1: Zeichen 350.1 indicates a cycle expressway, while Zeichen 350.2 marks its end.
- Some learner drivers assume that the sign prohibits motor vehicles. No such prohibition follows from Zeichen 350.2 alone.
- The end of the cycle expressway does not automatically mean that cyclists must dismount or that no cycle facility is available.
Exam tip
In illustrations, pay attention to the marking of the end: you may be asked whether a speed limit, a prohibition on motor vehicles or a new Vorfahrt rule automatically applies behind Zeichen 350.2. The correct answer is that such requirements arise only from additional signs or the general traffic rules.
Did you know
Zeichen 350.1 and Zeichen 350.2 were added to the StVO in 2020 to provide a standard way of identifying cycle expressways. These routes mainly connect destinations over longer distances and are intended to enable fast-moving cycle traffic.
Frequently asked questions
Do I have to stop at Zeichen 350.2?
No. The sign requires neither stopping nor waiting; however, you must carefully observe the traffic routing that follows.
Does a different maximum speed automatically apply after the sign?
No. Zeichen 350.2 does not prescribe a speed. Existing speed-limit signs and the general maximum speed limits continue to apply.
May cyclists continue riding beyond the sign?
Yes, unless another sign prohibits it. They must then follow the clearly indicated cycle-traffic route and the traffic rules that apply in each situation.
As a driver, do I have Vorfahrt at the end of the cycle expressway?
No, Zeichen 350.2 does not establish Vorfahrt. Traffic lights, Vorfahrt signs or, where these are absent, the general Vorfahrt rules are decisive.
