Did you know

This warning sign is not used only where cyclists frequently cross or enter the road. It may also be placed before tunnels where drivers must be prepared for cyclists in the carriageway.

Frequently asked questions

Do I always have to stop when I see the sign?

No, the sign does not automatically require you to stop. You must reduce your speed when necessary and be ready to stop if a cyclist may enter the carriageway.

Does a cyclist crossing the road always have the right of way here?

No, the sign does not give the cyclist the right of way. The give-way obligation depends, among other things, on signs, road markings and how the cyclist enters or crosses the road.

Why is the sign used near tunnels?

Cyclists may be difficult to detect in a dark tunnel, and there may be limited space for passing safely. The sign prepares drivers to reduce their speed and wait before overtaking.

Does the sign only apply to cyclists crossing the road?

No. It may also warn of cyclists who frequently ride out onto the road, or of cyclists in a tunnel.
