National fortifications
The sign indicates that there are national fortifications at or near the road.
When you see the sign
Be aware that a national fortification is located on or near the road. Continue in accordance with the applicable traffic rules, and follow any arrow or other direction sign if you wish to visit the site.
Rules
- Skilt 640.102 indicates that a national fortification is located on or near the road.
- The sign is a service sign and does not require you to stop, turn off the road or reduce your speed.
- The sign does not in itself permit parking; parking signs and local regulations must be followed.
- Any arrow, distance indication or other direction sign shows the applicable direction or distance.
Tips
- Look for an arrow or distance indication before choosing an exit to the fortification.
- Reduce your speed well in advance if you intend to turn off, but do not brake sharply when you notice the sign.
- Use only signed parking spaces at the site, and be aware of any access restrictions.
Common misconceptions
- Some people think the sign warns of a military area with general access prohibited, but it indicates a national fortification as a visitor destination.
- Some people mistake the sign for an instruction to turn off or stop, even though it only provides service information.
- Some assume that the sign also gives them the right to park beside the road, but parking is regulated by separate signs and rules.

Frequently asked questions
Do I have to turn off when I see the sign?
No. The sign provides information about a nearby fortification and does not require you to turn off.
